ROLE OF VOCATIONAL COUNSELLOR AND CORRECTIVE THERAPIST

         

                      VOCATIONAL   COUNSELLOR


The Vocational counselor is an important professional in the sociovocational team who identifies the right vocation, skill or way of life for the patient.

Some of his responsibilities include:

1. Evaluating vocational interest, aptitudes, and skills

2. Counseling patients who may shift to alternate occupations.

3. Organising activities, to improve job - related behaviour (.e., interview
skills, work skills employer - employee relationship behaviour)

4. Acting as a liaison between training and placement agencies and the patient.

5. Providing counseling education and support to potential employers of these patients.




                            CORRECTIVE  THERAPIST 


Corrective therapy is "the applied science of medically prescribed
therapeutic exercise, education and adapted physical activities to improve
the quality of life and health, by developing physical fitness, increasing
functional mobility and independence and improving psycho - social
behaviour".

Corrective therapy can provide the following:

1 Gross motor and remedial exercise programs.

2. Increase in endurance and work efficiency

3. Home programs for fitness for physically handicapped children

4. Fitness as a means of stress management for psychiatric patients.

5. Gait training and fitness programs for amputees.

6. Fitness - promoting therapeutic recreation programs for acute, chronic
and convalescent patients.
